Prince Harry visits HALO Exhibition
Prince Harry began a seven-day visit to the US on 9 May 2013 with a tour of HALO’s photographic exhibition on Capitol Hill. He was escorted by US Senator, John McCain (whose wife Cindy is a HALO Trustee), Guy Willoughby, CEO of HALO and Fiona Willoughby, exhibit photographer. The exhibition, displayed at the Senate Rotunda from 6-10 May, examined the pioneering efforts to rid the world of landmines and the power which mine clearance has to transform the livelihoods of some of the world’s poorest people.
The exhibition was curated by Aidan Sullivan, Vice President at Getty Images and Anthony Holland Parkin, Director of Editorial Content at Getty Images.
Prince Harry’s visit drew worldwide attention to the global problem of landmines and unexploded ordnance, which kill and maim thousands every year. After touring the exhibit the Prince attended a reception and dinner at the residence of British Ambassador, Sir Peter Westmacott. At an intimate dinner party, with HALO donors in attendance, the Prince made a speech praising HALO for the work that has been done over the past quarter century.
